Act of Contrition
My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong,
And failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
Whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
To do penance,
To sin no more,
And to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ
Suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.
Amen
How to go to Confession
-
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
-
Bless me Father, for I have sinned, this is my 1st Confession. (If this is not your First Confession, you would then say...My last confession was __________)
-
These are my sins: tell your sins individually and give an idea of their how often this happens or why it happens
-
Father I am sorry for these sins .
-
The priest will then give you some spiritual guidance, direction and penance.
-
Recite your Act of Contrition
-
The priest will give you Absolution (forgiveness) and then he will say to you….Go in Peace and you will respond with Thanks be to God.
-
Leave the confessional and return to your pew to say your prayers.
